When the Project Hope Health Clinic first opened, leprosy was still active within the village. One of the clinic’s goals was to eradicate leprosy so that the villagers would have a chance of getting jobs in the city. After several years of personal care and treatment through dedicated physicians and staff, that goal was met.
Project Hope offers more health services than most clinics in the area, and even with the number of patients growing daily, the clinic’s services are still free. Since opening its doors, the clinic has seen over 60,000 patients and infectious diseases are down 30%.
Laboratory Services
In 2023, Project Hope included a lab to diagnose patients, further improving patient care. A CBC-machine and Chem-20 machine were the first two machines purchased. 
Through the faithful generosity of sponsors and supporters, the lab has continued to grow, with additional devices being added such as an oxygen machine and an ultrasound. Other machines are on our wish list such as a Finecare machine to help patients with diabetes and an x-ray machine. Since the lab opened, more than 8,760 labs have been run.
Ultrasound Services
A state-of-the-art ultrasound machine was introduced to the clinic, operated by a part-time technician who performed 25-30 scans per month. 
News of the ultrasound service quickly spread throughout the village, leading to a notable increase in overall clinic visits. Since this was added over 1,200 ultrasounds have been performed.
What is next for the Clinic?
Our goal in the next 10 years is for the clinic to become a hospital. We are strategically working hard to achieve that goal by adding new services. The next service we are working hard to add is an x-ray machine.
Pharmaceutical Care
To accommodate the growing population, in 2022 the clinic moved to a larger facility in which a fully stocked pharmacy was added. Since then, the amount of medicine provided to patients has grown over 400%, and over 2,450 prescriptions have been given out.
Vision Care
In 2026, the Eye Care Center officially opened. The center was established because in 2023, a mission team member noticed a young boy in her English class struggling to see the blackboard. 
A passion ignited within her for all villagers to have access to vision care. Now the people of Gendetesfa no longer need to forego eye care.
Patient Story
A 60 year old man with past history of diabetes and paralysis due to a stroke came in to the clinic quite ill. An ultrasound discovered a kidney infection (pyelonephritis) and swelling of the kidney (hydronephrosis), as well as a blood clot (deep venous thrombosis). H
e also had a bed sore and a foot ulcer. He desperately needed to be admitted to the hospital but couldn’t afford it. The team at Project Hope developed an innovative approach of administering antibiotics by bladder irrigation. They cared for his wounds daily. Over several days he was healed!
